Relaxing at the Gärtnerplatz

In summer, the “Gärtnerplatz” is a great place to relax. There you will find the sun-hungry people who sit down on the benches at the roundabout and soak up the sun. In the immediate vicinity there are cafés that serve refreshments and ice cream. If you keep your eyes open, you’ll be lucky to spot a celebrity or two on the Gärtnerplatz, because they also like to stroll around the Glockenbachviertel.

A walk through the Nymphenburg Park

The Nymphenburg Park in Munich is a popular place to relax and meet friends

When the weather is fine and the sun is shining, it is possible to visit the Wittelsbach Castle, including the 180 hectare park. On a long walk, in the middle of Munich, visitors can expect an enchanting scenery with small streams, sculptures and pleasure palaces. The water features and fountains are in operation until mid-October and can be used to cool off on warm days.

A day on the Isar

Not much is needed for a successful day in Munich. All you need is your swimsuit, some provisions, a blanket and a portion of good humour to take to the Isar. As the river has its source in the Alps, it is a refreshing cool-down even on the hottest summer days. Of course, you can also spend the day cycling along the Isar or playing a round of bowls on the gravel courts.

An excursion to the open-air swimming pool

The open air swimming pool in munich is fun for everyone in hot summer weather

When the thermometer shows 30 degrees celsius or more, there’s nothing better than refreshing yourself in the cool wet. Munich’s open-air swimming pools are worth a trip on these days. Excursionists can sunbathe on the green areas, swim in the pool lanes or just splash around and splash friends. For those who like it sporty, many outdoor pools offer activities such as water gymnastics or Zumba in the water.

A sunbath in the green

If you want a brown complexion, you don’t have to travel if you live in Munich. In Munich and its immediate surroundings are numerous parks, green spaces and natural areas. Whether the English Garden, the Hofgarten or the Isarauen, they all invite you to linger in the sun and enjoy the fresh air on a wonderful summer day. All you need is a good book, a newspaper and a blanket to enjoy the day. In selected areas, such as the English Garden, nudists also get their money’s worth.

A visit to the beer garden

a cold refreshing beer is one thing you get in summer times in a beer garden in munich

Munich is famous for its numerous beer gardens. This is where many people meet, drink a refreshing beer or cycle – there is fruit ice cream for the kids. To fortify themselves, the beer gardens offer snack plates with a variety of Bavarian delicacies. Munich’s beer gardeners are thus the perfect place to take care of body and soul.

The Maria Einsiedel outdoor pool

Another one of our best tips for summer in Munich is the Thalkirchen. In Thalkirchen you will find the Maria Einsiedel natural outdoor pool. Here, everyone can cool off on hot summer days and without any chlorine. The natural outdoor pool does not use any chemical additives and is designed to clean itself naturally. The canal of the Isar river is about 400 metres long and offers enough space to swim and splash around for young and old.

A walk through the botanical garden

The botanical garden in munich is a very popular place for those interested in plants

Summer in the Botanical Garden can be recognised by the fact that the flowers and beds and shrubs are in full bloom. The bright colours and lush green invite everyone to take a long walk – just let your mind wander, let the scent of the plants take effect and listen to the sounds of the birds. After a walk in the Botanical Garden many visitors are full of new strength and deeply relaxed.
