What To do in Munich on Sunday – Westpark

Hi, looks like you are looking for a fantastic place for your weekend in Munich. I don’t want to lose too much weight, but you definitely got into the chatter with Westpark. Whether it’s for your short break, party with friends, or a few special moments with family.

But how did this diversity come about?

We owe the present Westpark to the horticultural exhibition that took place in 1983. When the exhibition ended, the Westpark became open to the public and the city decided to extend the park by 2.4 kilometers.

What you should definitely do for the time with yourself

Maybe some art?

Granted, I am not the greatest art lover either. Nevertheless, I have to admit that I was already impressed during my first walk through the Westpark.

The “Guten Tag Brunnen”, on the main path in the southwest, is an ideal place to just switch off and listen to the splashing water.

Afterwards we go to the “Kugelbrunnen von Christian Tobin” at the southeast entrance. The name says it all. It is a sphere, in a well. Sounds exciting. It is.

The next destination is then, “the terrace of Jean Clareboudt on the Rose Hill”. At the top, I can assure you that you’ll feel a little bit of giddiness. With 500 meters the Rose Hill is the highest hill in the Westpark. For the effort you will be rewarded with a great view on the “terrace”.

How about a few pages of your favorite book?

When was the last time you grabbed a book, sat down in the meadow on a sunny day and just enjoyed the weather? Long time ago, wasn’t it? The Westpark offers numerous open seating areas for your physical recreation.

Rise and shine early? Jogging in the morning?

Now it’s getting exciting. You’re probably thinking about skipping this part of the article, but not so fast my sporty reader. The Westpark offers the perfect area for a lot of athletes. This is also noticeable. Recently, I took a morning walk in the park and as a walker, I was overrun almost every 100 meters. So, don’t make the same mistake and pack your running shoes.

Not meditating for a long time? Thai “Sala” (pavilion)

Deep breath in, long breath out. Yes, this is already called meditation. However, if you have a little more time, as you should at the end of the watch, then I can recommend The “Sala with standing Buddha statue” most heavily. Why don’t you pack a blanket and sit in the temple, by the water.

For party with friends

Would you like a beer at the “Café Gans im Wasser”?

What? Friday again? Correct. And I can already tell you where to go. The “Café Gans am Wasser” is an incredibly open area at the Mollsee, in the eastern part of the park. If you and your friend decide to spend the evening there, I recommend to be there early, because the seats at the waterfront are the quickest way out. The café is open all day from 10:00 – 22:00. If you get there early enough, there might even be a campfire on (;

What about barbecues?

Weekend = barbecue. That’s what it looks like. The extensive Westpark offers a lot of barbecue opportunities for you and your friend. So pack some (vegetarian) sausages, some coal and (important) a lighter. If you still can’t decide which barbecue place you should go to, here is your map with the barbecue places: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?msa=0&mid=1dLs5h-p6cGzoLenj82wJ-7MUfB4&ll=48.1220284553297%2C11.527684931274393&z=13

Or rather a beer pong tournament at sunset?

The other day, while walking on the east side of the park, I discovered a group of young people with an interesting idea. Directly at the north-east entrance on one of the meadows, they set up their beer pong table and the corresponding utensils. Well then, bread!

For special moments with the family

What to do? Picnic at Mollsee!

You know what to do. Pick up your children, the dog, your wife / husband, your picnic blanket, your picnic basket, your favorite sandwiches and off to Westpark. The Mollsee in the park is accessible from every side and suitable for a picnic. Nevertheless, here’s an insider tip: It’s best to put up your blanket on the eastern part of the Westpark, because that’s where you’ll have the longest sun (;

In addition, the children have the possibility to look for the turtles there, which show up every now and then.

The children have power? Off to the adventure playground!

“I didn’t expect that” will be your words. The playground at the east entrance of the Westpark is surprisingly complex. From long slides, to huge sandboxes, a water playground, a tire swing, to a small climbing wall for the big ones. But even the very big ones have been thought of. You, the parents, can get a coffee in the “snack bar at the water playground” while the kids have fun.

What’s for refreshment? That’s why we have the hoffgarten!

Schnitzel with fries for the kids, pork knuckle and a Hoibe beer (0.5 light beer) for the parents. In the Hoffgarten you get a delicious and inexpensive way to recharge your batteries at lunchtime. The location is fantastic, the people are in a good mood and the splashing of the stream in the background creates a pleasant atmosphere. What more could you want on the weekend?

Conclusion

The extensive Westpark offers a unique weekend for every age group. Whether alone, with friends or the whole family, there is something for everyone. I hope I could help you in your search for your trip at the waking end and wish you a nice stay in Munich’s Westpark!
